Melanin Talk: Black Women Need Sunscreen Too

Melanin Talk: Black Women Need Sunscreen Too

Now that summer is basically here it's time to talk about sunscreen and the fact that our skin needs it. I don’t know about you but I never took sun protection seriously because I never thought I had to, but girl was I wrong. Although our melanin is powerful and gives us a form of protection (around 13 SPF ) the sun and it's damaging UVA and UVB rays still win. As I've gotten deeper into my healthy skin journey I learned that I've been making a huge mistake by not protecting my skin in the past. So, now that I have my act together you better believe that this #summersixteen not only will I be the sunscreen queen, but I will also be that be that annoying family member and friend that makes sure everyone I know is lathered up too! Bottom line, having an amazing skin care regimen is pointless if you let yourself fry like an egg as soon as you step outside. And to be perfectly honest skin frying is definitely the fastest way age your skin. I'm not trying to go all “mom” on you, but protect your skin the same way you would protect anything else you love and care about. Lastly, with things like premature aging and skin cancer on the forefront it's  time to tell a family member and friend, to tell another family member and friend to protect themselves from the sun. No excuses this summer ladies we want to glo up and not burn up!
